Meet Dr. Rafetto
Louis K. Rafetto, DMD, PA
Wilmington Oral Surgeon
Dr. Rafetto grew up in nearby Pennsylvania where he graduated from Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with High Honors from the University of Delaware, he received his dental degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from Temple University School of Dentistry. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training at The Medical Center of Delaware in 1980 and received certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 1983. He continues to be involved in post-graduate education, serving as Director of Didactic Education for the Oral and Maxillofacial Residency Program at Christiana Care Health Systems and is the Chairman of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Committee on Continuing Education and Professional Development.
Professional Activities
Dr. Rafetto is the current Chairman of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Committee on Continuing Education and Professional Development. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation, has chaired the AAOMS Committee on Healthcare Programs and has served on a variety of other committees on both the state and national levels.
Dr. Rafetto has been an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (the group that grants board certification to the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery) and has served as co-chairman for the development of a portion of the examination.
He also authored several chapters for textbooks as well as had a number of articles published in national and international journals. At the present time, he is a co-editor for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons “Knowledge Update” text and is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Oral Medicine/Oral Surgery/Oral Pathology.
On the local level, he is the Chairman of the Delaware Institute for Dental Education and Research, a Governor’s appointed committee that address issues of limited access to care in the state of Delaware. He has served as President of the Delaware Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for more than 15 years and has also served as President of the Delaware State Dental Society. He has also been elected to a number of national and international Honor Societies.
Other Activities
Dr. Rafetto is an active member of Health Volunteers Overseas and has lectured and volunteered surgical services in a number of countries including those in Asia, India, South and Central America.
Family
Dr. Rafetto is married and has two children. He has been very active in youth sports at a variety of levels for over 20 years. |
